The Impermanence of All Things
Holding two opposing forces at once
I've been sitting with a lot this summer — some of it mine, some of it everyone's. Here's where that's landed.
The impermanence of all things. That's been on my mind this summer. Not only from the destructive weather or the political upheaval affecting our daily lives, but also the energetics of things as we step into new times.
I've had to revisit my wearable art line due to the current tariff situation. A 50% tariff simply isn't sustainable. Legalériste is being as proactive as they can be about how they're navigating it but I still need to sit with it. I likely won't need to close things down entirely but what is offered may shift.
The company I use for printing my original art has apparently let go of their top-notch customer service, which means I may be letting them go as well. If they look bad, I look bad. I’m asking if they’re working on turning that around.
While I'm not directly challenged by the flames of the wildfires, we've been breathing the smoke for weeks. The degree varies, but it's there. And many have lost homes, and more, worldwide, due to all kinds of weather.
I'm feeling the weight of fear like a blanket. Heavy. Oppressive. This is so widespread right now.
When Covid hit, there was a pivot. For me that meant closing my office and expanding in new ways.
This feels like another pivot point, albeit smaller, perhaps. Bringing my offerings closer to my chest, without reliance on outside companies. This, in itself, is sad that we can no longer collaborate easily, at least for now.
This must be temporary, I tell myself. I know things fall apart in order to rebuild from a stronger, better foundation. And I’m on board with that, even when it is hard.
I'm currently reading historical novels about how people pulled together to make it through the atrocities of the past. I certainly hope we never get to those levels again — and I don't think we will. I truly have hope, and there's a lot of good going on.
Some of what I'm not knowing right now is small enough to problem-solve. Some of it isn't. I'm learning to hold both without needing either to resolve today.
But there are two opposing forces.
If this resonates and you'd like to follow along week to week, I send out a post every Sunday on Substack. Join me there.
Warmly,
Suzanne
